Method 1: Installing 1Password as a Snap Package

The easiest way to install 1Password on Ubuntu 20.04 is by using the snap packaging system.

A snap package is a type of universal Linux package that you can enjoy irrespective of the distro. Its an self-contained software packages that include the binary all dependencies needed to run the application.

All you need is the snap service pre-configured, In the case of Ubuntu 20.04, it comes with snap pre-installed.

If snapd package is not already installed then you can install it by running following command.

Note: Snap packages can be installed from either the command-line or via the Ubuntu Software application.

This is actually the Snap version of the 1Password. It can be used on any Linux distribution that has Snap support.

Open your terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and type the following command to install the 1Password package.

That's It. Now you can open the 1Password application with the help of Activities search bar.

Method 2: Install 1Password using deb package

You can add the official 1Password repo to your system to install it using your preferred package manager, but the easiest way to install 1Password on Ubuntu is to download the .deb installer package, and install it using the Ubuntu Software app.

Download the 1Password .deb package file using wget command as follows.

Once downloaded, type the following command to install the .deb package.

The above command should unpack the downloaded file and install 1Password on your computer.

Nevertheless, if you face any dependency issues with your installation, you can fix them with the following command.

Method 3: Manually add 1password apt repository

Alternatively You can install the 1Password package from its official repository, to do this follow the steps below.

Step #1

Open your terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and type the following command to install curl tool.

Step #2

Now run the following command. This will add the key for the 1Password repository.

Step #3

Now execute the below command to add the apt repository.

Step #4

Then execute the following commands. This command will add the debsig-verify policy to verify signatures for the .deb package.

Finally update the package index and then Install the 1Password package by typing the following command.

Starting 1Password

In the Activities search bar type '1Password' and click on the icon to launch the application.

When you start the 1Password application for the first time, a window like the following will appear.

If you have installed the appication using apt then uninstall by running the below command:
